The Vice Chancellor of Islamia College Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Ahmad ur Rehman Saljoqi, called on Dr. Muhammad Ilyas, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Omic Sciences, to commend him for the successful completion of his HEC-funded NRPU project (No. 17341) titled “Dissecting the Genetic Architecture of Neurological Disorders in Pursuit of Potential Therapeutic Interventions.”
Dr. Ilyas, who served as the Principal Investigator (PI), completed the project in record time, achieving remarkable scientific and academic outcomes. The project led to 10 research publications with a total impact factor of 48, along with two book chapters. Under this project, 17 MPhil students successfully graduated, while three PhD scholars are in the process of finalizing their theses. Additionally, 23 undergraduate interns received training in genomics research methodologies.
The project also contributed significantly to national capacity building and public engagement. Dr. Ilyas organized four training workshops and six awareness sessions in schools and hospitals to promote understanding of neurological disorders and genomics-based approaches. Moreover, the PI was invited to present findings at 17 national and international conferences, representing the Centre for Omic Sciences and Islamia College Peshawar on prestigious scientific platforms.
During the meeting, Dr. Ilyas briefed the Vice Chancellor about the project’s outcomes and its future prospects in rare neurogenetic disease research. The Vice Chancellor highly appreciated Dr. Ilyas’s dedication, leadership, and contribution to advancing genomics research at Islamia College Peshawar. The worthy Vice Chancellor presented appreciation letter to Dr. Muhammad Ilyas on his good work. PSO to Vice Chancellor Muhammad Shabir was also present on the occasion.
